IBM have announced the latest version of its Storage Manager family of products.

TSM is a highly scalable solution that enables the protection of data across the heterogeous data center. TSM 6.1 takes scalability to the next level by introducing DB2 as the backend database for TSM.

Whilst scalabilty has historically been an issue for many large customers, other issues have existed that steered customers away from TSM. Many of these have been addressed by the new version including:

• Individual Mailbox Restore (IMR) for Microsoft® Exchange Users
• Disaster Recovery preparation for VMware environments
• Integration with Netapp Snapshot functionality for faster backup/recovery of Netapp FAS/IBM NSeries systems
• Real-Time Monitoring and Reporting
• Trend Analysis
• Data Deduplication
• Active Directory object recovery with Tombstone re-animation support
